You never know when a dental emergency will arise. If you find yourself in this predicament, you must make an immediate appointment with an emergency dentist or an endodontist in Miami. We’ve compiled a list of typical endodontic procedures for sudden dental issues affecting your teeth.

Dentists perform root canal procedures in an emergency to save teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted. This approach is preferred for treating infected or inflamed tooth pulp or nerves. The tooth’s innermost layer is referred to as the pulp, while the canals are anatomical spaces that naturally form inside the tooth’s root.

The Procedure

During a root canal procedure, the endodontist removes the infected pulp and then thoroughly cleans and sanitizes the interior of the tooth and the root canals. The canals are then sealed with adhesive cement and filled with gutta-percha, a biocompatible rubber-like substance.

They could cover the treated tooth with a dental crown to prevent further harm and restore its appearance and functionality.

Inflammation and Infection

The usual causes of inflammation and infection in these tissues are deep cavities and fractures or cracks in the tooth. If you ignore these issues, you’ll eventually experience excruciating pain, abscesses, and tooth loss. Recurrent throbbing pain, dental sensitivity, tooth discoloration, and tenderness deep inside the bone are some of the symptoms, though they can vary.

Apicectomy

The majority of the time, a root canal procedure can save a tooth that is severely infected or inflamed. To protect the tooth, the endodontist may advise an apicoectomy in rare instances where a routine root canal is ineffective. A retrograde root canal procedure called an apicoectomy removes the tooth’s root tip and surrounding tissue.

The Procedure

During the procedure, the endodontist makes a tiny incision in the gum and a small hole in the bone at the tip of the root to expose the affected area. After removing the contaminated tissue and cleaning the root tip, the root will be filled and sealed.
