What is the Difference Between All-on-4® and Traditional Dental Implants?
All-on-4® dental implants are specifically designed to replace an entire arch of teeth with only four implants. They’re strategically placed to promote an even distribution of force when chewing.
Traditional dental implants only replace one missing tooth. If a person has more than one tooth to replace, they will need to have multiple dental implant procedures if they want the traditional procedure. All-on-4® eliminates that by replacing multiple teeth with one surgery.
The best candidates for All-on-4® dental implants need a significant number of teeth that need to be replaced. They don’t necessarily have to be missing an entire arch.
We can perform All-on-4® dental implant surgery on individuals with the following concerns:
- Numerous missing teeth
- Advanced gum disease
- Teeth that cannot be restored
- Cannot see benefits from restoring their teeth
Some discomfort after surgery is normal and will subside over time. For the first couple of days after your All-on-4® dental implant surgery, you will need to avoid disturbing the surgical site. You should not smoke during the healing process. To control bleeding, your oral surgeon will provide you with some pieces of gauze to keep in your mouth that need to be replaced every half hour.
Twenty-four hours after the surgery (and after the bleeding stops), start rinsing your mouth with salt and warm water three times a day. One of the best ways to ensure a good healing process is to rest during the first few days after the surgery.
